Picking out the right SUV can be a challenge, especially when you need one that will accommodate your passenger and cargo needs with ease. The new Ford Explorer is happy to demonstrate its capability and capacity here at our El Paso Ford dealership, and our team is ready to walk you through a comparison of this SUV to some of the top competitors, like the Chevy Tahoe. See why we prefer the 2020 Ford Explorer and why it comes out on top in a variety of categories.

2020 Ford Explorer vs 2020 Chevy Tahoe

  • The Ford SUV comes standard with a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost® engine while the Chevy Tahoe jumps up to a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8. Ford offers a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® V6 and a 3.3-liter hybrid, while the Chevy lineup allows you to choose between a V8 and a V8.
  • While the Chevy Tahoe does offer more powerful engine options, it sacrifices efficiency to do so. With the 5.3-liter V8, the Tahoe hits 15/22 mpg city/highway, which falls far behind the economical 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine in the Ford Explorer, delivering 21/28 mpg city/highway. Go farther with the Ford Explorer!
  • Both SUVs can seat up to seven passengers with their three-row seating, but those who sit in the third-row of the Chevy Tahoe will be cramped with 38.10 inches of headroom and 24.80 inches of legroom. The Ford beats both of these numbers, ensuring everyone has a comfy ride.
  • The Ford Explorer comes standard with a tri-zone automatic climate control system, 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot capability, dual second-row smart-charging USB ports, Intelligent Access with push-button start, and more. The Chevy Tahoe offers all of these same features, but makes you pay a lot more for their base model.
  • The 2020 Explorer offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration for intuitive use of your infotainment system. The Chevy Tahoe can't match the size, as it only offers an eight-inch option.
  • The Ford SUV is standard with Ford Co-Pilot360™, which includes features like a Blind Spot Information System, lane-keeping system, automatic emergency braking, and auto high-beam headlamps. The Tahoe offers many of these features, but not with their base model. You have to pay more to unlock them.
  • The base option for the Ford is available for $36,675, almost $14,000 less than the base model of the Chevy Tahoe. Save money or upgrade to a more luxurious model while still finding a better deal than the 2020 Tahoe.
